These names have been extracted from a hand written ledger listing the workers at Wingate Grange Colliery for the week beginning 4th May 1947. This list shows the men and boys employed a few months after nationalisation along with their occupation and the seam or area within the colliery they were working in at that time.

The original ledger is held by a private owner and is not available at the museum - we were very kindly allowed to copy the ledger and subsequently transcribe the entries - any transcription errors are our fault! The copy of the ledger we took along with the transcribed entries is available for examination at our display area at Thornley Community Centre.
